Youth at Risk

Slide background

Shift Happens believes that crime and violence committed by youth is not remedied by incarceration alone, but rather by “targeting the changeable characteristics of offenders”  combining programming that empowers youth self-esteem and compassion for self and others. We work hard to show every youth they matter, have value in the world and a purpose in their community.

Unique Value Proposition

We are deeply committed to creating sustainable change for every youth we work with. The design of our program uses the best elements from neuroscience, co-active coaching, leadership, psychology and education. These philosophies are crucial to our program development, which impact our success with our youth.

We believe that every youth matters and we see their future success as our life’s work.

Social & Self Awareness

Participants understand listening to themselves and others in a new way.  They will gain listening skills that they can use in their life and they will gain insight, awareness and mindfulness around their own inner experience (their senses, feelings and thoughts).

Inclusion & Diversity

Participants understand listening to themselves and others in a new way.  They will gain listening skills that they can use in their life and they will gain insight, awareness and mindfulness around their own inner experience (their senses, feelings and thoughts).

Neuroscience & Understanding

Further understanding the brain; the 7 levels of Effectiveness from a neuroscience standpoint.©BEabove leadership www.beaboveleadership.com

Participants will look at their future through different perspectives and learn about ones that are ineffective (and come from fight/flight/freeze) vs effective ones that require courage, engagement, innovation and greater understanding.

Empathy & Awareness

Participants understand listening to themselves and others in a new way.  They will gain listening skills that they can use in their life and they will gain insight, awareness and mindfulness around their own inner experience (their senses, feelings and thoughts).

Values & Head Trash

Participants will understand what values are in general and will identify some of their own values and how to use them to choose their path going forward in life. They will also understand what Head Trash / The Inner Judge / Gremlin / Saboteur is and how it operates as an internal enemy / keeps one from honouring values. Ultimately, they will learn how their internal thoughts impact their behaviour. In addition they will learn greater Self-Awareness, Self-Compassion, Self-Management and Choice around Values and Head Trash

Resilience & Confidence

Identify multi-dimensional inner qualities and resources as a team that works together to move the participant towards (or away from) the life they want to create. Participants will understand that they are multi-dimensional, naturally creative resourceful and whole, that they have an array of qualities that they can access at any given time – they are not just their current identity of x,y,z (ie: criminal). Participants gain a deeper understanding of who they are on the inside and see a greater possible future.
